How do I choose bike hire and organise cycling stops in Lucca?

How do I plan my visit to Lucca Comics & Games 2026 if I'm coming from out of town?

An answer to use now

The festival runs from 28 October to 1 November, open 9:00-19:00, plus evening events. It's best to buy online in advance: the ticket desks in Lucca also sell tickets during the festival, but only until the daily cap is reached. Train, or a parking space booked online, are still the safest ways to arrive. Some 2026 details on extra buses and trains are not published yet, so check them again closer to the date.

Step 1 of 8. Lucca Comics & Games 2026 runs from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November, 9:00-19:00 every day. Evening events outside these hours are listed in the official programme.
Step 2 of 8. Buy a ticket or multi-day pass online on TicketOne: 2026 sales opened on 1 September (at 11:00). From 1 October you can also buy it at TicketOne outlets across Italy, with a fee that varies from outlet to outlet; at some “gold outlets” you can also collect the wristband. The event ticket desks in Lucca still sell tickets during the festival, but only until the daily cap is reached, so don't make this your main plan. Any child born after 1 January 2017 gets in free with an adult who has a valid ticket and wristband, and doesn't need their own ticket; there are no family discounts. If you have a disability, entry is free and your companion gets a reduced ticket: apply by 18 October 2026 on senzabarriere.luccacomicsandgames.com.
Step 3 of 8. Choose how to get your ticket. With print@home or an eTicket on your smartphone you have your ticket straight away, but the wristband has to be collected at the welcome desk during the festival: Lucca Crea's ticket FAQ tells you where and when. If instead you choose the “skip the welcome desk” option by 10:00 on 16 October 2026, your ticket and wristband are delivered to your home (shipping began on 16 September); this option is already included in the price of 3-, 4- and 5-day passes. If you buy after that deadline, you still collect the wristband at the desk. Show your ticket and wristband together at the entrance.
Step 4 of 8. Lucca station is in piazza Ricasoli, a short walk from Porta San Pietro. You can get there from Florence, Pisa and Viareggio, with tickets on Trenitalia. No extra trains or changed access routes to the platforms have been published for 2026 yet: in 2025, Trenitalia and RFI announced them only a few days before the festival. Check trenitalia.com and rfi.it close to the date.
Step 5 of 8. Festival parking is run by Lucca Plus, online only, at eventi.parcheggilucca.it: you pay in advance and get a voucher. You can't buy a parking ticket on site. You can't see the 2026 prices or the number of parking areas without registering on the site.
Step 6 of 8. For out-of-town buses, the ticket office and information point are in piazzale Giuseppe Verdi, just past Porta Sant'Anna. Lucca Crea warns that the bus station used for departures and arrivals may change during the event, and promised details “in September”. As of 26 September 2026 they are not online yet. Check again before you set off.
Step 7 of 8. There are checks at the entrances to the city: backpacks over 20 litres and wheeled suitcases are inspected, and you'll be asked to open them and close them again, to take off masks or anything else covering your face for a moment, and to show an ID document. In the event areas, however, bags and backpacks over 20 litres and suitcases, wheeled or not, are not allowed in: being checked at the city entrance doesn't mean you can take them inside. Also banned: glass, sprays, air horns, chains, drinks over 5% alcohol, drugs, tripods, bats and poles, laser pens and pointers, drones, bicycles, skateboards, skates, hoverboards, tents and sleeping bags, weapons of any kind (even if you have a weapons licence), and flammable or explosive substances. For cosplay, the only weapons allowed are replica guns with a red cap and bladed weapons with no point and no sharp edge.
Step 8 of 8. Keep your validated ticket and the wristband that goes with it clearly visible until you leave the paid areas: don't throw them away before then. 2026 tickets can't be refunded or changed to another date. The only allowed resale is on FANsale (TicketOne), from 1 October 2026.

Before setting off again

Ticket ready (printed or on your phone) and wristband already delivered to your home, or collecting it at the welcome desk planned into your schedule.
ID document with you for the checks at the gates.
You know how you're getting there: train, out-of-town bus, or car with parking already booked on eventi.parcheggilucca.it.
Backpack under 20 litres, with no glass, sprays, banned substances or replicas that break the rules.
Bus and train times checked on the day, not last year's.

Avoid

Planning to buy at the ticket desk on the day: the cap of 80,000 entries a day can be reached before you get in.
Turning up at a festival car park without booking: you can only pay online, in advance, with Lucca Plus.
Bringing bags or backpacks over 20 litres, suitcases (wheeled or not), glass, sprays, banned substances or replica weapons without a red cap into the event areas: they won't get in.
Taking off or throwing away the wristband before you leave the paid areas.
Assuming the 2025 extra train and bus times still apply in 2026: check them again on the official sources close to the date.

How do I get organised if I live, work or need to get around in Lucca during Lucca Comics & Games 2026?

An answer to use now

You can walk around the city for free even on festival days, from 28 October to 1 November. The Municipality has published traffic and parking orders for 2026. Check dates, areas and conditions in the official collection; for buses, check Autolinee Toscane notices separately. Walk or cycle when you can (leave your bike outside the festival's paid areas), and check the official sources again close to the date.

Step 1 of 8. During the festival (28 October-1 November 2026) you can walk around the city for free: there are no limits on getting around on foot, for residents or for visitors. You only need a ticket to enter the festival's paid areas.
Step 2 of 8. From 21 September 2026 the first bans started, in stages, so the pavilions can be set up. From the 21st: piazzale San Donato and the Carducci car park. From the 22nd: corso Garibaldi, and piazzetta della Caserma, where the road lane next to the walls is narrowed (this is not a ban on the walls themselves). From the 24th: the east side of the church forecourt in piazza San Michele, via Vittorio Veneto and via Beccheria. From the 25th: the former Campo Balilla, piazza Anfiteatro, piazza monsignor Arrigoni, piazza degli Scalpellini and via dell'Arcivescovato. Check whether your street is on the list.
Step 3 of 8. The Municipality has published the 2026 orders on the page updated on 2 October. For registered residents and other people who live in the historic centre (residenti e dimoranti, categories A1 ZTL C, A2 ZTL B, A3 ZTL A), order no. 2242 of 1 October allows free parking 24 hours a day: from 5 October to 15 November in all pay-and-display parking spaces inside and outside the historic centre, except car parks with barriers (classified as “in struttura”) and those used by the festival organisers, with your ZTL access permit clearly displayed in the vehicle; from 10 October to 8 November in the Cittadella car park with barriers (“in struttura”), with the authorisation you collect at the tourist information point in piazzale Verdi. For other measures, open the collection at comune.lucca.it and check dates, areas and conditions; do not automatically apply the 2025 rules.
Step 4 of 8. If you have a car and don't need it, think about leaving it outside the centre on the busiest days. Festival car parks can only be booked online on eventi.parcheggilucca.it (Lucca Plus), and the roads outside the walls may be busier than usual. If you go by bike, keep it outside the festival's paid areas: bikes aren't allowed inside, so leave yours at a bike rack before you go in.
Step 5 of 8. Autolinee Toscane has published 2026 notices for assembly and dismantling: routes 1+, 3+ and 5 are diverted from 12 October to 7 November; during the same period, stop LU0501 S. Maria 4 in the bus lane is suspended for route 2+. Check the notices for routes and stops before travelling. These notices are not a complete festival bus plan; the older general page checked on 15 October still refers to 2025.
Step 6 of 8. As of 15 October, the municipal 2026 collection checked lists traffic and parking measures. If you run a business, check the collection and municipal notices again before 28 October for the rules relevant to your activity. Do not automatically apply the 2025 commercial orders.
Step 7 of 8. There are police and security staff at the gates into the city and the pavilions, and they check people who are just passing through on the way home or to work too. They may ask you to open bags and backpacks, to take off masks or anything else covering your face for a moment, and to show an ID document.
Step 8 of 8. If you rent out a room or have guests staying, remind them that tickets and wristbands are personal and can't be lent. Walking around the city stays free: no ticket is needed outside the paid areas.

Before setting off again

You've checked whether your street has parking or traffic bans for the set-up (from 21 September, in stages).
A bike or walking route ready instead of the car; bikes still stay outside the festival's paid areas.
Your bus stop and times checked on at-bus.it on the day, not from memory.
ID document with you if you need to go through gates or guarded areas.
You've saved the number of the 24-hour pharmacy in piazza Curtatone: 0583 491398.
You have checked the 2026 orders, dates and areas that apply to you in the Municipality’s official collection.

Avoid

Following the 2025 rules as they are: for 2026, parking and the ZTL follow the Municipality's orders, and buses follow Autolinee Toscane's notices.
Leaving your car or bike in squares and avenues where set-up work has already started (see the step on bans).
Going to your usual bus stop without checking whether the terminus has moved.
Thinking the checks at the gates don't apply to people who live or work inside the area.
Driving at the festival's busiest times for something that can wait: go early in the morning or after 19:00.
