Neighbourhood water

The problem

Lucca has public water, but newcomers don't know where. They don't know which fountains work, which are drinkable, or where to fill a bottle without having to buy something. So people buy plastic, or go without water.

How it should work

The map marks out public points with a source and a date. A network of businesses declares the free refill and keeps it up. A simple bottle, with a QR code to this guide, is a reminder that the water is there, and where. The bottle is a tool: the service is the network.

The map publishes 146 water points, each with a source and a date. No on-site check yet carries perdiqua Lucca's signature. No reusable bottle has been produced or distributed.

Before it starts

Before the bottles, we need signed on-site checks, written agreements with businesses, materials with food-contact documentation, traceability and insurance. No sponsor logo on the bottle. No place on the map is for sale.

The proof we need

Thirty days with five verified refill points, counted from the fifth business to join. Every correction logged with its date. Guide opens from the QR code are counted only with an authorised system; without one, they stay “not recorded”. If the five points hold, the network grows. If not, we say so.

Where it comes from

March 2026. The idea was a reusable bottle with a QR code, handed to students outside the universities and on weekend evenings. The QR opened a map of free drinking fountains, because there are few of them and water should be a right. The map was meant to grow: toilets, libraries, places to study, free events. It really did grow, and it became perdiqua: an independent project of its own, created and supported by Ortolano del Vintage and Perligio, the two names behind this guide.

The bottle

A plain bottle, unprinted, with a hand-applied label: the guide's name, the QR code to the water points, one line saying what you'll find. No sponsor logo: the bottle carries a service, not an advert. Materials must have food-contact documentation, checked by someone qualified, and every piece must have a traceable batch and manufacturer. A paper label with seeds, to tear off and plant, is an idea under consideration, not a promise.

The refill network

A business joins the network when someone entitled to do so declares in writing that it will fill anyone's bottle, free, with no obligation to buy, with precise terms and hours. The declaration goes on the card with the date. Joining costs nothing and earns no better spot on the map: it only earns a card that tells the truth. If it stops, the card changes. Once the network starts, a credible report of unsafe water will suspend the point until there is confirmation.

How it's distributed

The network is tested first with the bottles people already have. Our own bottles, if they come, are handed out only by hand, at staffed points: authorised stalls near university buildings and at businesses in the network. No bottles left unattended, no vehicles with loudspeakers. Being on public land requires the Comune's permit, applied for in advance and kept on file. The first batch is small: we count what happens, then decide.

Who can take part

A business: it joins when someone authorised declares the free refill in writing, with no obligation to buy, with terms and hours, and gives notice if it stops. Businesses that join display a small card with the QR code. If you'd like to put yourself forward, write to info@perdiqua.com with your name, address and opening hours. Writing doesn't mean joining the network.
An association or student group: can help walk the water points and report broken ones. Every check carries a name and a date.
The water utility or the Comune: can confirm which fountains are drinkable and which are under maintenance. One official source is worth more than a hundred reports.

What we don't do

We don't print sponsor logos on the bottle, and we don't sell places on the map.
We don't collect donations: if a cause joins the project, it has its own official channel, and we say so.
We don't declare a point drinkable if no one has checked it.
We don't publish numbers of bottles distributed that we can't prove.

If you hear it, do not look away

The problem

A personal alarm that sounds does little good if the person carrying it doesn't know when to use it and whoever hears it doesn't know what to do: they look away, or step in recklessly.

How it should work

A pin-activated device that sounds loud without a phone, with batteries to replace and check. It doesn't call anyone by itself and doesn't tell anyone where you are. The model hasn't been chosen and its documents still have to be checked. One public message, just one: if you hear it, do not look away.

Useful days

The problem

Litter scattered in streets and squares. Many people would like to do something, but an improvised clean-up can go wrong: bags left in the street, dangerous objects handled bare-handed, no one to pick the bags up.

How it should work

If it starts in Lucca: a small pedestrian area, chosen after a site visit, and a group supervised by leads. Only ordinary litter is collected, in pairs, and the bags go where the operator has said, with a pick-up agreed in advance.

What exists today

In Lucca there is no group, no person in charge, no area, no date and no agreement with the waste operator. The format written so far is for another city and doesn't automatically apply here.

Before it starts

Before announcing a day, we need a named person in charge, the site visit, a written agreement for the pick-up with Sistema Ambiente, the waste operator, guidance from the Comune, and checked insurance cover and emergency procedures. No embankments, riverbanks, roads open to traffic, building sites, railway areas or private land. Household waste collection doesn't count as an agreement for the day's bags.

Next concrete step

We need a person in charge, a site visit and a written agreement with the operator for the pick-up. If you're an association in Lucca and want to organise it, write to us.

The proof we need

An area checked at the end and a report within 48 hours: who came, bags by type, who picked them up, costs, what didn't work. The weight stays “not measured” if no one weighs the bags. If the pick-up fails or there's an incident, everything is reviewed before doing it again.

What isn't collected

Syringes, sharp glass, batteries, unknown substances or containers, possible asbestos, animal carcasses, bulky items, electrical appliances, medical waste. Closed bags aren't opened and you don't put your hands where you can't see. You stop, keep the group away and tell the lead. In immediate danger, call 112.

The problem

Something breaks, you no longer need it, or you need something you don't have. The easy option is to throw it away and buy new. In Lucca there are already places to repair, donate, reuse and fill your bottle, but each has its own rules, and they aren't written down in one place.

How it should work

Four questions, one per action. For each one: a few steps, what to check before you go, the official source with its date, and a link. It isn't a perdiqua network: these are services that already exist, run by others.

What exists today

The four actions are written, with sources read on 27 September 2026. They point to services run by others: no one has joined the project and we haven't visited any of the places. You can use them now: open Repair, Donate, Reuse or Refill below.

Before it starts

We don't guarantee prices, free access or opening hours: what the operator says is what counts. Daccapo decides what it accepts, and Pontetetto and Lammari do different things. No new point goes on the map until its entrance and coordinates have been checked on site.

Next concrete step

Check Daccapo at Pontetetto on site before putting it on the map. Recheck the sources by 27 October, or straight away if someone reports a change.

The proof we need

You pick an action, open the right source and check conditions and opening hours before you go. No figures for items saved or kilos avoided until there is a real measurement. If a source changes, the card changes.

Repair

It's broken: who can tell you if it's worth repairing? Before you replace it, ask.

A torn or unstitched piece of clothing: before you throw it away, ask a tailor or alterations shop whether it can be fixed and how much it costs.
A household appliance: note the brand, the model and what doesn't work.
Write or call the workshop before you go: the contacts are on Rossi Service's page, below. Ask whether they'll take it, how much the diagnosis costs and when you'll get the quote.
Don't take it apart at home to look for the fault.
On the map the point is in the middle of via del Bozzo, not at the entrance: the address is via del Bozzo 204/A.
Before you go: price, timing and whether it can be repaired are up to the workshop. Being listed here doesn't mean they've joined perdiqua.

Donate

You don't need it any more, but it works: where do you take it? First check that they accept it.

Reuse

Before you buy new: can you find it second-hand? Ask before you go.

Daccapo recovers items and puts them back into circulation.
Items offered for a donation or for sale, and free clothes, are handled separately, at different sites and times.
Clothes: Daccapo has a clothes-only site in Lammari, in another municipality. In one time slot clothes are free, in another they're for sale: check the website for which is which.
For anything else, contact Daccapo: ask which site has what you're looking for and on what terms.

Refill

Where can you fill your bottle without buying bottled water?

Open the water points on the map: each one has its own source and date.
The public fountains and the Fonti del Futuro are on GEAL's page. At the Fonti del Futuro still water is free; sparkling water is paid for, with a dedicated card.
Use a clean container and keep it for water only. At the Fonti del Futuro don't touch the spout with the bottle and, if people are waiting, GEAL asks for no more than six bottles each.
If you find a sign saying closed, under maintenance or not drinking water, the sign is what counts. Look for another point and report it from the card.
Before you go: a web page doesn't tell you whether the point works right now. An ornamental basin isn't a refill point: what counts is the source for each individual point. No bar or shop refills for free on our behalf: that network is still a project.

What we don't do

We don't guarantee prices, free access, opening hours or availability: what the service operator says is what counts.
We don't collect items and we don't organise home pick-ups.
We don't present the services mentioned as part of perdiqua: they're here because they exist.
We don't put a new entrance on the map until someone has checked it on site.
We don't publish kilos avoided or money saved that we haven't measured.
We haven't checked any place for refillable detergents or loose products: for now, “refill” only means water.
