Open data and sources

This download contains only the exportable ODbL dataset: it can be downloaded, reused and corrected by anyone, without an account or asking us. Partner businesses and local services may appear in the guide as proprietary data, but do not come from OpenStreetMap and are not in this ODbL file.

It contains 733 points in the ODbL collection. The 0 records excluded from this file include proprietary partner and local-service data, plus sources without a compatible redistribution licence. The 0 reported broken ARE included, each carrying its state and the date it was reported: a dataset that hides the fountains known to be out of order is less useful, not more careful. The 0 whose only source is fontanelle.org are shown with attribution on the map but not redistributed as a set.

⚖️Licence

The derived database is Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. You may use, modify and redistribute it. You must attribute OpenStreetMap where applicable and release any derived database under the same licence.

652 records contain OpenStreetMap data, under ODbL 1.0 with attribution to © OpenStreetMap contributors.

81 records contain Wikidata data, under CC0 1.0; they are not attributed to OpenStreetMap.

Partner-business and local-service details are NOT included and are not ODbL: they are proprietary data, merged only in memory when the page is built. A business does not get its name licensed under share-alike because it appears in the guide.

What “verified” means here

A point is verified when its declared source has been checked, or when somebody has checked it on site. These are two distinct levels: 733 points are confirmed from their source and 0 carry an on-site check. A source check is never presented as a visit. The 0 reported broken carry the report date and author. Dates shown are always the real ones, even when old.

From sources without a declared licence we take single facts — the author and the date travel with every point, and are in the file above — and those points are on the map. What we do not do is redistribute their set: the 0 points whose only source is fontanelle.org are excluded from the file above. Datasets with a non-commercial clause are excluded entirely: perdiqua Lucca is published by a company.

🔄What we give back

When a correction is verified on site, our method is to publish it on OpenStreetMap with the check date, so anyone can use it — including us. Until that happens, it remains a source check and is never presented as our fieldwork.

If the project closes, corrections already published on OpenStreetMap stay there with their dates. The public work that has actually been returned does not disappear with the guide.

✏️Found a mistake?

The “Works? No” button is the fastest way to tell us: it is on everything that can break — fountains, toilets, study spaces, parks, useful services — but not on the 228 monuments, where asking whether a fifteenth-century square still works would only suggest we do not know what we are showing. You can also correct the point directly on OpenStreetMap: the correction reaches us too, at the next import.
