Livorno in a few hours, on foot
Do you have half a day, or a few hours between a ship and a train? Build your tour starting from where you arrived and from the time you must be back: a few well-chosen stops are worth more than a long list.
Choose two or three stops
Start from where you arrived, port or station, and choose a few stops from the "Cosa fare e vedere" page of Visit Livorno. Fortezza Vecchia and the Mercato delle Vettovaglie have a page on Visit Livorno, and Terrazza Mascagni has one on Visit Tuscany: read them to decide what really interests you.
Check opening and who runs each place
The pages we read do not give opening hours. Before you go, ask the offices listed on Visit Livorno, or the operator of the place, whether it is open and how to get in. Also look at the events calendar: an event can change your plans.
Plan your return
Keep the time you must be back on board or on the train as your fixed point. Measure the walking route on an up-to-date map, head back with plenty of margin, and leave for last the stop closest to where you will depart from next, the port or the station depending on your journey.
Still to be checked
- We have not measured walking times between stops, nor verified opening hours or entrance tickets. We do not yet know the operator or season of the boats on the canals: ask the tourist offices before counting on them.
